My wife’s top up fees went up by £1,000 a month

Warren rang our Helpline after being told that he needed to pay £1000 a month in top-up fees or his wife would have to move to a cheaper home. She had finally settled there 10 years ago, after moving between several homes that had been unable to manage her violent outbursts.

R&RA’s Helpline Worker talked Warren through details of her rights and options and emailed details of the relevant legislation, suggesting he challenge any move as presenting an unreasonable risk to her health and welfare.

‘Your advice was spot on. The council has agreed to meet the full cost of her placement without moving her.’
