Support for care workers should continue

The Relatives & Residents Association has written to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care highlighting the negative impact of recent changes to COVID-19 measures on the lives and wellbeing of people needing care. Despite guidance setting out that care workers should continue to self-isolate if they test positive for COVID-19, the Government has withdrawn the Infection Control and Testing Fund which ensures they receive full pay when isolating. The joint letter with the Care Workers’ Charity and the Care Providers Alliance calls on the Government to reinstate the fund.

Director of R&RA, Helen Wildbore, said:

“The lack of sick pay for care workers who need to isolate will have a negative impact on the lives and wellbeing of people needing care. No-one should have to choose between paying their rent and protecting people they care for.”
