Good care guides
Supporting good practice
Our helpful guides are for anyone who wants to know what a good quality care experience should be like.
Over the past few years, the Relatives & Residents Association (now Care Rights UK) created some helpful guides, which are popular with both practitioners and people using care services. They could be useful to anyone who want to understand what good quality care should look like.
Note that these are legacy publications, so they are not currently being updated. We have shared them here because many people continue to find them useful. If you are in doubt about any information here, please do check against the latest guidance, some of which you may find in our Get support section.

Keep Smiling
‘It’s hard to keep smiling when you’ve got toothache, when your grandson backs off because of your bad breath or when you can’t bite an apple any more.
‘Too often people keep worries like this to themselves but with some practical help and understanding, plus access to the right professional dental services, the pleasures of a friendly chat, a happy hug and a tempting meal can soon bring the smiles back. ‘
‘Keep Smiling: Mouth and Teeth Care for Older People’ is a handbook designed to help anyone caring for older people, and for people whose dementia or disabilities make them resistant or unable to manage their own mouth and teeth care.
